Shabbat Gift Baskets for a Gracious Table

Candlelight, white linen and the quiet beauty of the week’s end.

Shabbat gift baskets are a gracious way to thank a host, welcome a new neighbor or honor a family’s table. Designed by Lana Sverdlik in our Great Neck atelier, each one gathers flowers, candles and sweets composed with products bearing recognized kosher certification, delivered across Nassau County, Long Island and New York City before candle lighting.

Shabbat Gift Baskets as a Host Gift

Being invited to a Friday night dinner is an honor, and many guests wish to arrive with more than a bouquet from the corner shop. Yet carrying a gift through the door moments before candle lighting can be awkward for a busy host. A Shabbat gift basket delivered earlier in the day solves this gracefully, arriving composed and ready to grace the table or sideboard without adding any work to the kitchen.

Lana designs these presentations to complement a Shabbat table rather than compete with it. White and ivory palettes, low arrangements that allow conversation across the table and restrained ribbon work keep the look serene. Contents are chosen for the evening itself and the restful day that follows, so the family can enjoy the gift throughout Shabbat rather than setting it aside for later.

Elements of the Shabbat Table

Many clients like to include pieces that become part of the family’s weekly ritual. An embroidered challah cover, a pair of elegant candlesticks, tall white tapers, a Kiddush cup or a hand-thrown salt dish all make meaningful additions. We present these keepsakes nestled in tissue within a lined tray or keepsake box, so they are protected in transit and feel like treasures when unpacked.

Edible selections are composed with products bearing recognized kosher certification, kept in their sealed packaging. Rugelach, babka, fine chocolates, dried apricots, roasted nuts and aromatic teas are popular choices for the leisurely hours of Shabbat afternoon. Clients may specify a hechsher or a pareve preference, and we note these carefully before sourcing begins. Our atelier itself is not kosher-certified, so certification always refers to the individual products.

Flowers for Friday Evening

Fresh flowers are a cherished Shabbat tradition in many homes, and our sister business, BonVivant Florists of Great Neck, gives us access to beautiful seasonal blooms. White hydrangea, garden roses, sweet-scented stock and delicate lisianthus can be arranged in a low vessel for the table or incorporated into the basket itself. Scent is kept soft so it never competes with the aromas of the meal.

For clients who send Shabbat flowers regularly, perhaps to a parent, a grandparent or a rabbi, we can discuss a recurring arrangement that changes with the seasons. Each week’s design may shift in color and texture while keeping a consistent standard of freshness and care. It is a lovely way to stay present in someone’s home even when you cannot join them.

Timing Around Candle Lighting

Delivery on Friday is shaped by the calendar: candle lighting arrives much earlier in winter than in summer, and many families prefer gifts well before the rush of final preparations. We plan routes throughout Great Neck, Kings Point, Manhasset, the broader Nassau County area and New York City with that in mind, and we will never schedule a delivery that intrudes upon Shabbat.

Because Friday is a busy day for us too, we encourage clients to share their date and address as early in the week as possible. We will confirm a delivery window that suits the household. Clients who prefer to carry the gift themselves may arrange studio pickup on Thursday or Friday morning. Budgets for single and recurring gifts are discussed at consultation.
